Redondo Beach August 1

Postby BJMin » Mon Aug 05, 2013 10:05 pm

First time posting results

On water by 930am - got to love workday traffic

Hoist is a strange site
Where is the closest washdown anyways

WFO on sandbass and calicos just outside of harbor for about 45 minutes

Here are pictures of the grade of fish (all C&R)
21 inch sand bass

18 inch calico

Once it slowed went to the 40 fathom curve and first drop resulted in this double

Ended the day with 8 total rock cod with biggest one at around 18 inches
most were around 10 inches

Hoisted out and enjoyed a two hour car ride in traffic back to Orange County during rush hour

Long day but more than worth it
Dropped off all rockcod at in-laws and kept biggest one for self.
Delicious!

Hit the area again on Sunday but no bites on the calicos and sandbass even though fish marks everywhere

Ended the day with 10 rockcod (smaller grade) but got into decent sand dab bite close to Hermosa Pier (20 sand dabs in 30 minutes)

No more meat runs for a while.

Nice haul especially the 18" Vermillion  Redondo & Hermosa are uncharted waters for me, we usually frequent Dana Point, Long Beach and Marina Del Rey all of which provide wash-down areas on site. However, Dana Point is the only launch that provides a free wash and clean restrooms, more bang for your ten buck launch/park fee :D

Duane
Pleasure to meet you then. DId you make it to Catalina?
Didn't catch anything that day though birds everywhere. Seems everyone was out at the Horseshoe Kelp. Tons of birds crashing everywhere but no takes on plastic or irons

Did run across a huge basketball court sized baitball of achovies near the red bouy but nothing crashing them except a few birds.

Been fishing at LB, HB, and DP.

Time permiting will try to make next group outing. Need to get acquainted with closer marinas. Less drive time, more water time.

Thanks

Yes, I went all the way to Catalina looking for better water. Caught 2 Calico & 1 Cuda and then had a rough ride home. That was not a good fishing day.

Shoot me a message when you can go out on a Saturday again.

Hoist was $18 total for entry and exit.
Parking for trailer is bit of a walk.

Additional $4 for parking.

$22 for the day but no washdown facility. Only a few minutes to harbor entrance.

there were no other boats that Thursday nearby. Some divers probably chasing WSB at the kelp beds near Rocky Point.

Sunday a bit more boat traffic but not like HB.
